The Third Annual Conquer Chiari Walk Across America to raise awareness and funding for research will be Sept. 18. at the Monclova Community Center, 8115 Monclova Road.
Chiari Malformation, a neurological disorder involving the brain and spinal cord, affects about 300,000 children and adults in the United States, and can cause headaches, neck pain, balance problems, trouble breathing, and weakness in the limbs.
Funds are being raised for research efforts in an attempt to isolate the cause, establish timely diagnoses, develop more effective treatments and promote patient/physician education.
Registration will be at 10 a.m. The walk will begin at noon. The event will feature food, refreshments, community speakers, entertainment, and more.
The Delta Eagle Riders will sponsor a charity poker run the same day with proceeds donated to Conquer Chiari Walk Across America. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the community center with the first bike out at 11 a.m. Cost is $10 per rider. Cars are welcome and the cost is the same as the bikes.
Walk organizers are Jill Lovejoy Miller, Kellie Haupricht, and Nicole Hutnik. Ms. Hutnik is the Toledo area site coordinator.
To register or to become a sponsor, contact CCWAAToledo@gmail.com. Each walk location is requesting donations from corporate and private sponsors. Conquer Chiari, known formally as the C&S Patient Education Foundation, is a nonprofit organization.
