Clay High player breaks neck in hockey tourney

KETTERING, Ohio A Clay High School hockey player broke his neck yesterday during a tournament in this Dayton suburb, authorities said.

The 14-year-old, whose name was withheld last night, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where his condition was unavailable. Kettering Fire Shift Commander Mitch Robbins said he considered the boy s injuries critical.

Medical personnel were called to the Kettering Recreation Complex about 10:20 a.m. on report of a neck injury. When they arrived, the boy complained of neck pain and had no feeling below his shoulders, Mr. Robbins said.

The Oregon hockey team was participating in Beavercreek High School s Frozen Creek tournament, an annual Thanksgiving weekend event.
