Teen pair face charges in cemetery desecration
CLYDE, Ohio — Two 17-year-old boys suspected of vandalizing more than 170 headstones at McPherson Cemetery are being held in the Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Center.
Clyde police said the boys were arrested Wednesday night; one was charged with delinquency in connection with felony vandalism, the other for a probation violation.
A reward of more than $8,200 was collected. Police said the money would be returned to donors because information leading to the two suspects came from one of the boys.
Thirteen headstones were knocked over Aug. 25 and 158 other stones were damaged on two subsequent nights. Police said more than 50 grave sites also were desecrated.
