Coast Guard rescues 2 teens from ice along northern Lake Erie
CLEVELAND — A U.S. Coast Guard crew has rescued two teenagers who ended up adrift on an ice floe in a bay along Lake Erie’s northern shore.
The Coast Guard says the 17-year-old man and 18-year-old man rescued Monday morning apparently became stranded while duck hunting.
Workers at a rescue center in Ontario, Canada, contacted the Cleveland district for help. A helicopter crew out of Detroit retrieved the teens and took them to be evaluated by emergency medical personnel.
The Coast Guard says the teens appeared to be in relatively good condition when they were picked up.
The organization says the rescue is a reminder that people planning activities on or near the lake should carry safety gear and check the weather, especially considering the unusually warm temperatures recently.
