Ohio seeks talk with Holder on voter-rolls law

COLUMBUS -- Ohio's elections chief is seeking a meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss elements of federal law he says prevent the state from maintaining accurate voter rolls.

Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, said he sent a letter to Mr. Holder Friday with his request. Mr. Husted said he has identified two counties in Ohio where U.S. Census figures identify fewer residents of eligible voting age than the number of registered voters appearing on state rolls.

He said federal regulations limit Ohio's ability to remove ineligible names from voter rolls that could increase the potential for voter fraud.

Wood County has 104,450 registered voters and the census indicates 98,213 voting-age residents.

Morrow County has 26,018 registered voters and the Census says there are 25,834 voting-age residents.
