WTOL hires news director

WTOL-TV, Channel 11, has hired a news director to replace C.J. Beutien, who resigned in early April.

Mitch Jacob, who has been news director for stations in Arizona, Kansas, and Texas, will start at the CBS affiliate on Aug. 23. His most recent news director job was for KPHO-TV in Phoenix; he left the station last September.

"Mitch is a person we know," WTOL general manager Bob Chirdon said. "He worked for our company [Liberty] for about nine years, and he distinguished himself in a variety of roles."

Beutien, who was WTOL's news director for nearly 11 years, is now news director of WQAD-TV in Moline, Ill.
