Stay Tuned with Kirk Baird: Christina Williams

You have heard their voices on radio and seen their faces on TV. Now The Blade goes behind the scenes to introduce you to your favorite media personalities. Stay Tuned appears the third Monday of every month.

First job: I was 16 and worked at Sebastiano's Italiano, formerly Pal's Ice Cream. I was a jack of all trades: waitress, ice cream scooper, sandwich maker, and the occasional coffee barista. It was a great first job and taught me the value of a dollar.

First salary: I made around $5.25 plus tips during the ice cream days.

My idol is: My mantra is that every day you might find someone who can better your life. Whenever I meet someone like this I take a little something away from them and try to improve myself. I guess you could say my idol could be hiding anywhere.

Most embarrassing TV moment: Hmmmm, embarrassing moment … I might need to ask the people of Toledo about this one. That's the beauty of live television, anything can happen — losing your train of thought and bad hair days, you get to see it all.

Highlight of my career: Things are just getting started but so far the highlight is working where I do now. Growing up, I always watched Channel 13, and it was a far-off dream to work there. Now I am proud to be part of this talented group.

My favorite thing to do outside of work: Anything outdoors. The Metroparks are so beautiful, walking the trails and taking in the scenery is a free getaway. I try to visit at least once a week. There are so many people in the Toledo area that don't even use them!

I think Toledo's best-kept secret is: Hands down the Toledo Lucas County public libraries. My mother is a huge advocate of the library. Growing up she would always take me to the library and it stuck. To this day I am always up for a good book.

People may be surprised to know that I: am fascinated with marine biology. I want to become SCUBA certified and plan a dive trip.

In five years, I see myself: Furthering my career, traveling more, and starting a family. My journey is just beginning; as long as I have a job that I enjoy I'll consider myself blessed.

My dream job is: working in a big city or taking on a job as a foreign correspondent. If only for a year it would be such a great adventure!
