'Situation' dances back to Jersey

BLADE NEWS SERVICES

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is headed back to the Jersey shore.

The reality star with the chiseled abs was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars last night. He and professional partner Karina Smirnoff came into the show in last place after performing an Argentine tango Monday that one judge called "a terrible mess."

"It was consistent," said head judge Len Goodman. "It was bad throughout."

Sorrentino said he thought the judges' scores were unfair.

Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine which couple is ousted each week.

Sorrentino, 29, joins previously eliminated contestants David Hasselhoff, Michael Bolton, and Margaret Cho.

Returning to dance Monday will be actors Jennifer Grey, Kyle Massey, and Florence Henderson; singer-actress Brandy; athletes Kurt Warner and Rick Fox; reality star Audrina Patridge, and Bristol Palin.

The American Film Institute is honoring Morgan Freeman with its Life Achievement Award.

AFI chairman Howard Stringer calls Freeman "an American treasure" who brings a calm authority to his roles, "whether playing a prisoner, a president, or God."

The 73-year-old Oscar winner (Million Dollar Baby) has received many awards throughout his career, including the Kennedy Center Honor in 2008. He was nominated for Golden Globe and Academy awards for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in 2009's Invictus.

Freeman can next be seen in the thriller Red, which opens Friday.

He is the 39th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award. Others include Alfred Hitchcock, Bette Davis, Jack Nicholson, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese.

•Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced Monday they have been separated for some time but said they remain committed parents and "best friends."

The actors released a joint statement announcing what they are calling a trial separation.

The statement was released shortly after In Touch Weekly reported the couple's split.

Cox, 46, and Arquette, 39, met on the set of the film Scream in 1996 and married three years later. They have a 6-year-old daughter together.

•Christina Aguilera and her husband of nearly five years have separated.

The "Beautiful" singer says in a statement released yesterday that she and husband Jordan Bratman's commitment to their 2-year-old son remains "as strong as ever." .
