'Cherry Street Mission' to premiere on WGTE-TV
WGTE-TV, Channel 30, explores the foundation, history, and purpose of the 65-year-old Cherry Street Mission as part of its ongoing series Toledo Stories.
Cherry Street's Mission premieres at 8 p.m. Thursday. The show will be on Buckeye Cablesystem Channel 9.
The mission was founded in 1947 and adapted and transformed to meet the needs of the community's downtrodden. The mission originally served only men, providing food and shelter for the night.
Today, the mission serves men and women, and is open 24 hours a day throughout the year, providing food, emergency shelter, clothing, as well as substance abuse counseling, individualized literacy and vocational training, transitional housing and job readiness assistance.
