In a mirror image of the Nielsen ratings, WTVG-TV, Channel 13, and WTOL-TV, Channel 11, were in a similarly close contest in the battle for local Emmys, with the ABC affiliate the narrow winner over its CBS counterpart.
WTVG recently won three Emmys from The Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including Best Weekend Newscast in a market 41-plus.
WTOL won two Emmys, Best Evening and Best Morning newscast in a market 41-plus. Channel 13’s Sports Director Dave Holmes won in the Crafts category for On-Camera Talent Host and for Best Sports Program category for Border Battle. Holmes received five Emmy nominations — half of WTVG’s total nominations. Channel 11 received three nominations.
The regional chapter of the Emmys covers northern Ohio, as well as parts of Indiana and Erie, Pa.
