The University of Toledo will play Iowa State in a home-and-home football series beginning in 2014, UT athletic director Mike O'Brien announced Monday. The Rockets will travel to Ames, Iowa, for a game on Sept. 20, 2014, and the Cyclones will visit the Glass Bowl Sept. 19, 2015.
The schools have met twice, both recently and both games were thrillers. Iowa State won in 45-43 in triple overtime in 2006. The Rockets won 36-35 at the Glass Bowl in 2007 thanks to a deflected field-goal attempt with 11 seconds left.
"The addition of the Iowa State series brings another outstanding opponent to the Glass Bowl for our fans," O'Brien said. "We played two of the most exciting games in recent memory against Iowa State. We are looking forward to another great series with the Cyclones."
Toledo is 2-4 all-time against Big 12 teams. The Rockets' victories came at home against Kansas in 2006 and Iowa State in 2007.
Other upcoming Big 12 opponents are Colorado (2009) and Missouri (2013 and 2014).
