Toledo coach Tim Beckman said he plans to continue to patrol the sidelines for the Rockets despite speculation from other media outlets that he could be in line for other head coaching positions, such as Tulane. Beckman has posted a 21-16 record so far with Toledo in his three seasons as head coach.
University of Toledo football coach Tim Beckman said Thursday that he has not been contacted by any other schools in regard to coaching vacancies and added he's focused on the Rockets as they prepare for a probable bowl game.
Beckman has been mentioned by several media outlets as a possible candidate for the opening at Illinois.
"I have not been contacted by anyone," Beckman said. "We're worried about bowl games, we're worried about bowl preparation, and I love Toledo."
Early last month, Beckman was listed as a candidate for the Tulane job, according to a report in the (New Orleans) Times-Picayune.
Now in his third year at Toledo, Beckman possesses a 21-16 career record and has the Rockets appearing in their second straight bowl game. He's also reeled in the top-rated recruiting class in the Mid-American Conference in each of the last two years.
Beckman declined to comment on whether or not he'd be interested if the right offer from another school came along.
"I'm worried about the Toledo Rockets," he said. "I'm worried about winning a bowl game. We did not get that accomplished last year. I'm worried about these seniors leaving this school successful."
As for the hiring of Urban Meyer at Ohio State, Beckman said he spoke with Meyer on Tuesday to congratulate him. Beckman served as defensive coordinator under Meyer at Bowling Green State University when Meyer was the Falcons' head coach from 2001-02.
"I'm happy for him," Beckman said. "He's a close friend of mine. I'm excited about him getting back in Ohio."
