The University of Toledo football team accepted an invitation Sunday to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 15 in Boise.
The Rockets will take on Western Athletic Conference champion Utah State in a matchup to start at 4:30 p.m at Bronco Stadium. The Aggies (10-2) are ranked No. 18 in the latest Associated Press poll and finished the regular season on a six-game win streak. Their only losses came on the road by a combined five points to Wisconsin (16-14) and BYU (6-3).
This will mark the second year in a row Utah State participates in this bowl following a 24-23 loss to Ohio. The Aggies are coached by Gary Andersen, who has put together a 25-24 mark in four seasons at the school.
Toledo (9-3) will appear in a bowl for the 13th time and for the third straight year. The Rockets captured the Military Bowl title in 2011, topping Air Force, 42-41.
“I think the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will provide our student-athletes with an outstanding bowl experience, as well as the opportunity to play against a very tough Utah State team,” UT coach Matt Campbell said in a statement. “Playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is an excellent reward for our players, coaches and everyone involved in our team’s success.”
In recruiting news, the Rockets picked up a verbal commitment Sunday from a wide receiver. Zach Yousey, of Harvest Prep in Columbus, holds offers from several Mid-American Conference programs. Yousey (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) is the 16th commitment and the first receiver in Toledo’s 2013 class.
