University of Toledo director of women’s track & field and men’s and women’s cross country Kevin Hadsell announced his resignation today following his admission he had violated university policy.
“We have accepted the resignation of coach Hadsell,” UT Athletic Director Mike O’Brien said in a statement. “We thank him for his many contributions to the success of our cross country and track programs, and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Hadsell enjoyed tremendous success during his tenure at UT. His women’s cross country squads won five Mid-American Conference championships, including in each of the past three seasons. He also was named MAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year five times, in 2001, 2002, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
O’Brien said that no NCAA rules violations were involved in Hadsell’s decision to resign. He added that assistant coach Jiana Jin has been named interim head coach for the track and cross country programs, and that interim assistant coach Ari Fisher will remain in her position.
“I want to apologize to the University, the Toledo community and the student-athletes, past and present, for letting them down. I have always told my student-athletes that there are rules, and that they must follow the rules or face the consequences. I hold myself to the same standards; it would be hypocritical not to," Hadsell said. "Therefore, I have submitted my resignation today as the director of women’s track & field and men’s and women’s cross country.
“The University of Toledo and the community of Toledo have been my home for the last 15 years. I am indebted to the University of Toledo for everything it has done for me. I will always be a Rocket.”
