PEORIA, Ill. - Justin Maiser scored twice as the Peoria Rivermen outshot Toledo 45 to 30 en route to a 6-4 victory in the teams' preseason opener last night.
David Wyzgowski, Ty Hennes, Noah Whyte, and Anthony Purchase tallied goals for the Storm, Purchase's of the unassisted variety. Hennes also assisted on a pair of goals.
The Rivermen - with 34 years of total ECHL experience compared to four for Toledo, according to Storm spokesman Matt Melczak - tallied two goals in each period, including an empty-netter, and outshot the Storm 21-11 in the final session.
Logan Koopmans gave up five goals but also recorded 39 saves for Toledo.
Also, the Storm announced that its preseason game with Dayton tonight would take place at the Sports Arena as scheduled at 7:30.
