The Toledo Storm will have its captain and top defenseman back this season.
Jason Maleyko, who emerged as a leader and playmaker on the special teams units in his second full season with the Storm last year, re-signed with the team yesterday. Maleyko led Toledo with 40 assists and was ranked sixth on the team with 46 points.
After averaging just 16 points in his first two seasons in the ECHL, Malekyo made a huge leap last year when he was named captain near the midpoint of the season.
Malekyo led the team with 31 points on the power play and penalty kill. He also added a pair of goals and six assists during the Storm's playoff run.
At 6-3 and 225 pounds, Malekyo has averaged 106 penalty minutes in his two years in Toledo.
