Strong flurry leads Walleye to win

Reading, Pa. -- Two third-period goals 10 seconds apart gave the Walleye a 5-4 road win over Reading on Saturday night at the Sovereign Center.

It capped a flurry of goals in the final stanza to help Toledo improve to 16-19-1 this season.

Harrison Reed scored the game winner with 64 seconds left in the game, 10 seconds after Kyle Rogers beat Reading goalie Paul Dainton to tie the game.

Toledo tied the game at 2-2 when Bryan Rufenach tipped a pass from Kyle Rogers at 5:37 of the third. The Royals scored twice in 14 seconds to take a 4-2 lead midway through the period. Toledo closed the gap to 4-3 when Aaron Lewicki scored his second goal of the game at 14:19 of the period.

Walleye goaltender Rob Nolan finished with 32 saves and is 8-11-2 on the season.

Toledo gave up a goal 52 seconds into the game as Tyler Brenner beat Nolan with a wrist shot between the pads.

Toledo tied the game at a goal when Lewicki blasted a rebound at 12:36 of the first for his seventh goal of the year.

Lewicki's goal was the first for him since Dec. 18 at Trenton.

The Walleye killed off three Reading power plays in the first, including a full two minutes of a 5-on-3.

"We knew they would come out fired up at the start of tonight's game," said Toledo coach Nick Vitucci. "Nolan made a couple of big saves for us to get us through that first period. We just needed to find a way to get some scoring going and we did that in the third."

The Royals regained the lead in the second when Yannick Tifu beat Nolan with a wrist shot from the right circle at 10:44 of the period.

Toledo is 3-3-1-0 against teams from the Atlantic Division this season.
