KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Toledo’s first-period goal by Maxim Shalunov was not able to stand as host Kalamazoo notched two second-period goals in a 2-1 Wings victory on Saturday night.
It was Shalunov’s first goal in his second game with the Walleye after being sent down from Rockford of the American Hockey League earlier this week.
The assist came from IceHogs teammate Pat Mullane, who also was sent to Toledo this week.
Goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 35 shots, but gave up two goals in the second period.
The Wings scored 2 minutes, 43 seconds into the frame with Kalamazoo defenseman Brett Ponich notching his second of the season while forward Eric Kattelus scored on the power play with 1:42 left in the period.
The Wings were 1 for 3 with the man-advantage while Toledo (8-13-3) was 0 for 4.
Kalamazoo goalie Jordan Binnington finished with 21 saves for the victory.
