Here's what we posted last week on OurTownSylvania.com:

Wildcats hockey hungry for title, by Mark Monroe, Blade Sports Writer: The Northview hockey team came close to winning the state championship two years ago. The team is eager to make its dreams reality this year as the playoffs get closer.

"We have great experience from those dark moments in our high school careers," senior forward Zach Felser said.

"It helps a lot. We want to move past it. They are big motivators."

Northview is off to a 13-1-3 start this season and the Wildcats are outscoring foes 74-23.

The Wildcats are ranked No. 2 in the state in the first poll that was released on Tuesday.

Northview student recycles electronics for Eagle Scout Service Project: Northview senior, Colin McCloskey collected e-waste for his Life Scout troop project on Saturday.

Mr. McCloskey said he considered several project ideas.

He selected the e-recycling program because it provided an opportunity for residents and businesses to dispose of unused electronics in a safe, convenient and environmentally conscious way.

"Once he began the project he discovered the impact that e-waste was having around the world through exposures to toxic or hazardous materials," said Tom Barnhizer, Life Scout troop leader.

"He saw that his project was not only going to be a benefit to Sylvania residents but children halfway around the world."

Sylvania Township firefighters get raise: The Sylvania Township trustees Wednesday unanimously approved a 1.5 percent pay raise for the township's firefighters this year and in 2013.

Also at their regular meeting, the trustees re-elected John Jennewine president of their three-member panel and Neal Mahoney, vice president.

The vote for Mr. Jennewine was unanimous. The vote on Mr. Mahoney was 2-1, with Kevin Haddad dissenting.

Sylvania extends Christmas tree pickup for two weeks: Sylvania will continue Christmas tree pickup until the end of this week.

Pickup times will follow accordingly to the regular green yard waste schedule.

City crews will run through this schedule twice until all trees are removed from the streets.

Sylvania has collected an average of 1,000 trees each year since 1998. Last year, 1,081 trees were collected from Sylvania homes, which is the highest number since 2006.

The Parks and Forestry department grinds the trees into wood chips after collection. The wood chips are used by the city for mulch.

A portion of the wood chips are sold to the public.
