Here's a recap of last week's OurTownSylvania.com.

Northview dance team rocks at basketball games: The team, made up of 16 girls, from freshmen to seniors, performs at each Northview High School varsity boys home basketball game and at three girls varsity home games each year.

The team participates in regional competitions throughout the year in pursuit of an invitation to the statewide championship meet.

"I tell them that the importance goes family, school, and then dance," said head coach Kelly Snyder. "If they can't handle that, then it's not for them."

The girls have team dinners and events on the weekends.

"We've all gotten a lot closer this year," said senior Mackenzie Bihn, captain.

Car thefts in area: Sylvania and Sylvania Township police reported four car thefts in early January.

Police say this is not a trend and usually the result of carelessness.

"Don't leave your keys in your car," said Bill Rhodus, Sylvania police chief.

The city of Sylvania has an average of one car theft every two weeks.

Sylvania Township has had 19 since Oct. 1; 10 of those cars have been recovered.

City council organizational meeting, by Mayor Craig Stough: On Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, Sylvania City Council met at 7:25 p.m. for its required every-other-year organizational meeting.

This past November, Doug Haynam, Sandy Husman, Mark Luetke, and Todd Milner were re-elected to four year terms on City Council.

In November, 2013, the council seats currently held by Mike Brown, Katie Cappelini, and Mary Westphal and also the mayor will be on the ballot.

The council elected Todd Millner as president with a unanimous vote.

Mr. Stough urged community members to attend meetings and give the council ideas on how to better the community.
