City to take sewage from Whiteford

Members of Sylvania City Council unanimously passed an ordinance last week at their regular meeting to allow the city to accept sanitary sewer waste from a new portion of Whiteford Township, which is across the state line in Monroe County.

Under the pact, the township's sewer district two will connect to the city of Sylvania's sewer system.

The city has a 17-year agreement in place to handle waste from the same township's sewer District One.

The city will be paid $4.50 for every 1,000 gallons of waste.

The waste will be from the village of Ottawa Lake and will "follow Memorial Highway south using a forced main to connect to Sylvania's sewer system near the Ohio-Michigan state line," the ordinance states.
