Butterscotch is the new flava of the month

Move over Blake Lewis I have a new favorite beatboxer/singer and her name is Butterscotch.

Man does this girl have talent! And, appropriately, she is one of the Top 10 battling it out for $1 million on NBC s America s Got Talent. Five more acts will be eliminated next week on the search for America s favorite, talented superstar.

Not only can this girl beat box and sing, but she can do it simultaneously. That s right, she does both AT THE SAME TIME. How? I dunno. All I know is she s a one-woman act who doesn t need anything or anyone else to be awesome.

And I have mixed feelings on the singers because let s face it everyone can sing and lots of people can sing well. This is a competition full of tumblers, ventriloquists, and martial arts dancers. Therefore, the singers need some sort of edge to make them stand out. I don t even think playing an instrument will even cut it anymore it s just not enough.

This is why I don t understand the number of singers who made it into the Top 10. For me, I would have eliminated Cas Haley, Jason Pritchett, and Robert Hatcher a long time ago. No matter how good they are, I m just more impressed with other, harder-to-come-by talent.

The only exception I ll make is for Julienne Irwin, the 14-year-old amateur who sounds like she s been a resident pro on the stage for years. I couldn t even imagine myself being brave enough to perform in front of my classmates in a talent show at that age, and here she is blowing the country away with her voice.

And I do make a distinction between a solo singer and a group of singers because it s much harder to stay in tune while with a group especially when everyone has to harmonize and remember the dance steps.

Though their kind of music was definitely not my favorite, I still enjoyed watching the Duttons, the family of vocalists, dancers, and instrumentalists. There s just so many family members who make up this group and they really light up the stage when they perform.

And I also definitely enjoyed watching the sexy Glamazons perform. These plus-sized women sound great together and individually, and show women in America that no matter what their body looks like, it s A-OK.

The top 10 were announced last Tuesday, and the field will be narrowed down to five at 8 p.m. this Tuesday.

And make sure to tune in to the season finale of American Inventor at 9 p.m. on Wedensday. In case you forgot who the finalists were, and would like to read thought-provoking commentary on the inventions by yours truly, click on my last blog entry here.

Stay tuned.
