JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Discount clothing retailer Stein Mart Inc. said yesterday that the Miami office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has asked for information related to some of the company's accounting practices.
The commission asked the company last month how it has valued inventory and how it has accounted for discounts negotiated for certain products since Feb. 1, 2003, Stein Mart said in a statement.
