Foreclosures slidein Ohio, Michigan

Home foreclosure filings declined in Ohio and Michigan in the first three months of the year, according to the online tracking service RealtyTrac Inc.

Ohio ranked 11th nationally with 31,595 filings, or 3 percent fewer than in 2008 s fourth quarter. Foreclosures were up 1 percent from last year s first quarter. Michigan ranked sixth with 33,184 filings, or 2 percent fewer than in the prior quarter. Filings rose 12 percent from the first quarter of 2008.

Nationally, default notices, auction notices, and bank repossessions jumped 9 percent in the first quarter from the prior quarter and were up 24 percent from the same period a year earlier, at 803,489 filings.
