COLUMBUS — Huntington Bancshares, subject to takeover rumors for years, is turning the tables on such talk.
It announced this week that it has added an executive to lead the bank's search for companies it can buy. Scott Brewer, formerly of financial-services company Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. in Cleveland, has taken the newly created position of corporate development director. He will lead merger and acquisition strategies and activities, the company said.
“Huntington has turned the corner in this challenging economy and is now in the position to be an acquirer,” Mr. Brewer said in a statement. He was not available for interviews.
