Former TWA attendants called back by American
FORT WORTH -- More than 200 former Trans World Airlines flight attendants are to go back to work Nov. 17, more than 11 years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that caused an airline industry slowdown and cost tens of thousands of jobs.
The recall of 211 announced Thursday means that for the first time since the attacks, no former TWA attendants are on furlough.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines bought St. Louis-based TWA months before the hijackings. In the subsequent downturn, American slashed 2,500 jobs; TWA attendants, who had lost their seniority in the takeover, were the first cut.
