The Blade promotes Franck to V.P. post

Kurt Franck, 56, has been named vice president of The Blade in addition to his post as the newspaper’s executive editor. The announcement was made on Wednesday by John Robinson Block, publisher and editor-in-chief of The Blade.

Mr. Franck, who has been The Blade’s executive editor since January, 2010, was named vice president by The Blade’s executive committee at its quarterly meeting this month. He served as the newspaper’s managing editor from September, 2000, until his promotion in 2010.

Before working at The Blade, Mr. Franck spent 16 years at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, including stints as assistant city editor, news editor, and deputy managing editor.

Mr. Franck spent six years before that working for United Press International under different assignments in Columbus, Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., and Orlando, Fla. He also was UPI’s Florida editor and Miami bureau manager. Mr. Franck judged the 2007 investigative category and the 2008 local news category for the Pulitzer Prize.
