New UAW deal likely kills wage gap
The last-minute deal hammered out between the United Auto Workers and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles effectively eliminates the pay gap between the automaker’s veteran employees and its more recent hires, one of the union’s top priorities going into negotiations. Second-tier workers would eventually top out at about $29 an hour under the proposal, or at virtually the same pay as the veteran workers. People with knowledge of the agreement said it would take eight years for new hires to reach that top scale.
