Perkins school bus driver is cited after accident

BLOOMINGVILLE, Ohio - A Perkins Local Schools bus driver was cited for failing to yield right of way at a stop sign yesterday after causing an accident in Erie County's Groton Township.

Donna Rhode, 62, was stopped on Harris Road at State Rt. 99 when she tried to turn left and pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by David Sidell, 33, of Wakeman, Ohio. The truck collided with the school bus at 8:24 a.m. and pinned the bus against the cement divider and the bridge poles under the Ohio Turnpike.

The truck and the school bus were heavily damaged, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Two students were on the bus, but they were not injured.
