Police veteran lands Maumee chief's position

Robert Zink, a 24-year veteran of the Maumee police division, has been named chief of police.

Maumee city council last night unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Zink, 46. He replaces former chief Robert Bunce, who retired. The appointment took effect yesterday.

City officials offered congratulated Mr. Zink and said they were looking forward to working with him.

Chief Zink, who was promoted to sergeant in 1987 and has been a lieutenant with the division since 1996, said he is excited and honored to serve in the position.

Mr. Bunce, who had served with the Maumee police department since 1964, officially retired Saturday. Dressed in civilian clothes, he shook hands with council members during their meeting last night and told them that his first day of retirement “has been wonderful.”
