Partners in Education yesterday presented awards to Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, a law firm, and Owens Corning, the building materials manufacturer, for efforts to help improve learning in local schools.
Shumaker, Loop was recognized for enlisting 32 employees and other volunteers to help students at Garfield Elementary School prepare for the 4th grade proficiency test.
Owens Corning was saluted for its reading tutoring at Chase Elementary School. The company has been a partner with the school for several years. Partners-In-Education is a nonprofit group that coordinates school-community partnerships in local school districts.
