Holiday celebrations begin early in area communities

A few area communities are holding their Independence Day celebrations and fireworks early this year.

Springfield Township and the village of Holland will hold a community picnic from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. at the township's Community Homecoming Park, 7807 Angola Rd. Rain date for fireworks is tomorrow.

In Luna Pier today, there will be garage sales, food vendors in Memorial Park, and a police department bike auction at 11 a.m. at the municipal building, 4357 Buckeye St. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. off the end of Luna Pier Road.

Fireworks will be held at dusk tonight at the Hancock County and Hillsdale County fairgrounds.
