RISINGSUN, Ohio - Five people were hurt yesterday when a car collided with a sport-utility vehicle just west of here.
Dennis Smith, 49, of Woodville was taken by air ambulance to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals where he was in critical condition. Flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center was Michele Schmitz, 33, of Wayne, who was in good condition, and Emily Schmitz, who was in serious condition. Her age was not available.
According to Wood County sheriff's deputies, Mr. Smith was westbound on Bays Road about 11 a.m. when he stopped at a stop sign at Pemberville Road, then pulled into the intersection and collided with Ms. Schmitz's SUV, which was southbound on Pemberville.
In addition to Emily, two other passengers in Ms. Schmitz's vehicle, Dylan Benschoter, 4, of Wayne and Miranda Cox, 3, of Risingsun were treated at Wood County Hospital. Citations were not immediately issued.
