Newport woman dies after 2-vehicle crash

CARLETON, Mich. - A 38-year-old Newport woman died after a car and a pickup truck collided at North Telegraph and Carleton-South Rockwood roads.

Cecelia J. Davis died in Seaway Hospital in Trenton, Mich., Monroe County sheriff's deputies said.

Ms. Davis was westbound about 4:30 p.m. in a car on Carleton-South Rockwood and collided with a northbound truck on Telegraph driven by Leah Smithey, 26, of Carleton, deputies said. Both vehicles went off the road into a parking lot and hit small trailers.

Ms. Smithey and Dorothy Rojem, 75, of Carleton, were in serious condition at area hospitals. The accident is being investigated.
