Stryker woman, 74, dies in car crash near Bryan

BRYAN — A Stryker woman was killed yesterday when the car she was riding in was struck broadside at an intersection in Pulaski Township near Bryan.

Laverne Shaffer, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Mrs. Shaffer's husband, Stanley Shaffer, 75, was westbound on County Road F and failed to stop at the stop sign at County Road 15. The Shaffer car was struck broadside by a southbound straight truck driven by David Castor, 43, of Bryan.

Mr. Shaffer was taken by helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was in critical condition last night. Mr. Castor was treated in Bryan Community Hospital.
