Sheriff's deputy in crash won't face traffic charges
Traffic charges will not be filed against a Lucas County sheriff's deputy whose cruiser collided with another car on Airport Highway early Tuesday, the Ohio Highway Patrol said yesterday.
But the report notes that Deputy Richard Grove, 33, had a “contributing circumstance of unsafe speed,” troopers said.
Deputy Grove of Toledo was driving westbound on Airport, near Crissey Road in Springfield Township, when he turned on his emergency lights and began to make a U-turn toward the east about 3:35 a.m. His patrol car went out of control. He swerved back into the westbound lane and was hit by a car driven by Eugene Harkness, 52, of Holland. Both men were treated at Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.
