Oregon man hurt as car hits semi in Ottawa County

OAK HARBOR - An Oregon man was hurt severely yesterday in a head-on collision on State Rt. 2 in Ottawa County's Carroll Township.

Michael Dukett, 28, was taken by helicopter to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals, where he was in critical condition last night.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said Mr. Dukett was westbound on Route 2 at 12:53 p.m. when the car he was driving went left of center and hit a semi tractor-trailer driven by Curtis Schropfer, 27, of Millerstown, Pa. The crash damaged the truck's fuel tank, spilling about 75 gallons of diesel.

Mr. Schropfer, who was wearing a seat belt, wasn't hurt. Mr. Dukett was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. Troopers said the car Mr. Dukett was driving was reported stolen from a former girlfriend in Oregon shortly before the crash. No charges had been filed last night.
