Law enforcement officers, community center volunteers, and youths convicted of misdemeanors will participate in an afternoon of swimming, basketball, volleyball, and other activities when the three-member Police Probation Team holds its 8th Annual Crime Prevention Day Picnic Wednesday.
Probation Team member and Toledo Police Officer Floella Wormely said the picnic allows youths to see outreach workers and police officers in a “different light.”
“Most people feel that we just arrest, and that's all our job is, but we do a lot more to stay in tune with the community, with the programs in the community, and with the people in the community,” Ms. Wormely said.
There will be ice cream, free swimming, food, and sports activities at the picnic, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Bowman YMCA, 2018 Tremainsville Rd. Officer Wormely said she expects 300 individuals to attend the event.
