Toledo to send 8 to zoo conference

The Toledo Zoo will send eight of its staff members to the American Zoo and Aquarium Association conference next month to learn how to better help zoo animals survive and breed in captivity.

Executive Director Bill Dennler, six curators, and a zoo biologist will travel to the annual conference in Fort Worth Sept. 10-14 at a cost of about $850 each, zoo spokeswoman Andi Norman said.

There, they and zoo representatives from around the world will discuss species survival plans for captive animals, ranging from African elephants to polar bears, Ms. Norman said.
