LIMA, Ohio - City Police Chief Greg Garlock underwent open heart surgery yesterday and planned to be off work for up to two months.
Chief Garlock appointed Major Larry Winegardner to serve as acting police chief during his six to eight-week medical leave.
Surgery was done to replace an aortic valve, a condition the chief said was discovered during a routine medical exam. He did not have a heart attack.
