A Toledo man who drove the wrong way on southbound I-75 and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer near the Detroit Avenue exit ramp late Tuesday died yesterday, authorities said.

Gilbert Benge, 65, of Cumberland Place, was pronounced dead in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He died from injuries he suffered in the accident, said Dr. Cynthia Beisser, a Lucas County deputy coroner.

The man's vehicle collided with a rig driven by Walter G. Noel, 47, of Ashville, Ohio, Toledo police said. Mr. Noel was treated at the hospital.
