Authorities look for man who fell off Kelleys dock
KELLEYS ISLAND — Coast Guard crews and firefighters searched fruitlessly yesterday for a man who was reported to have fallen off a dock into Lake Erie.
Petty Officer Timothy Robertson at the Coast Guard's Marblehead station said authorities received a call at 11:45 p.m. Saturday that the man had fallen off the Casino's Dock on the south shore of Kelleys Island. A Coast Guard boat arrived 14 minutes later and began to search near the shore in water about five feet deep, Petty Officer Robertson said.
A second Coast Guard boat and the Lakeside Fire Department's dive team joined the search shortly after 12:30 a.m. and continued until about 1:50 a.m., Petty Officer Robertson said.
Onlookers did not know the man's identity or have a detailed description of what he was wearing. Petty Officer Robertson said the Coast Guard will resume the search if officials receive information that a resident or visitor is missing.
