Maumee court hosts workshop on poverty
Maumee Municipal Court Judge Gary L. Byers and the court will host a workshop on “Bridges Out of Poverty” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at the UAW Region 2-B meeting hall, 1691 Woodlands Dr. in Arrowhead Park.
Philip DeVol, co-author of Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professions and Communities will be the featured presenter during the workshop designed to increase participants' understanding of the differences in socio-economic cultures and how these differences impact clients' opportunities for success.
“I hope that the insight provided by Mr. DeVol will add a certain perspective to the reasons why many people make the decisions that bring them into the criminal justice system,'' said Judge Byers, who participated in one of Mr. DeVol's workshops during a judicial education seminar.
The workshop is free, but participants must purchase a $16.20 book. Registration deadline is Saturday by calling 419-897-7149.
