Elida boy, 17, is struck by van, dies in hospital

ELIDA, Ohio - A teenager died Wednesday night after he was struck by a van while walking along Piquad Road near here.

Ebenezer Pool, 17, of Elida, was pronounced dead at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, about an hour after the accident.

According to the Allen County sheriff's office, Ebenezer was walking east with traffic about 9:40 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound van driven by Janet Alexander, 29, of Lima.

Deputies said she could not see the young man, and a westbound car was approaching at the time of the crash.

No citations have been issued, authorities said.
