A 9-year-old boy's foot was nearly severed when he jumped from a slow moving train in East Toledo, firefighters said.
Anthony Mershon was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after paramedics found him on Hickory Street near Earlwood Avenue. He was carried from nearby railroad tracks after the accident and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in serious condition last night.
The boy apparently was playing with friends on a train about 4 p.m. yesterday. When it began to move, he attempted to jump off, fire Lt. James Price said.
