Maumee officials held a groundbreaking ceremony last week for the police station to be built on East Dudley Street near Conant Street.
The $8.1 million station will be about 54,600 square feet, which is nearly five times the size of the old station. The new building will include an indoor firing range and physical training area.
The Maumee police department is temporarily located at 1238 Conant until construction is completed in fall 2005.
