Monroe man killed in crash; driver injured

MONROE - A 23-year-old Monroe man died early yesterday in a one-vehicle accident in Ida Township that seriously injured another Monroe man.

Adam Heinzerling, a passenger in a vehicle driven by Scott Falls, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Falls was eastbound on Ida East Road near Geiger Road when his pickup crossed the centerline, entered a ditch, and struck a traffic sign, a driveway culvert, and a pair of trees, Monroe County sheriff's deputies said.

Mr. Falls was taken to Toledo Hospital, where he was in serious condition. Neither man wore a seat belt, deputies said.

Based on information from neighbors, deputies believe the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. But the wreckage was not discovered until 6:08 a.m.

Deputies said they believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
