Tiffin man dies, driver injured on State Rt. 18

TIFFIN A 24-year-old Tiffin man was killed in a crash yesterday on State Rt. 18.

Craig Hoerig was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash just east of Tiffin. He was a passenger in a pickup driven by Anthony Barnwell, 25, of Republic, Ohio, who was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition last night.

Mr. Barnwell was driving east on State Rt. 18, just west of County Road 15 when the pickup went off the right side of the road. He over-corrected, went off the left side of the road, slid sideways, and struck a tree on the passenger side, according to the patrol.

Fremont post troopers found him and Mr. Hoerig trapped in the pickup. The accident remains under investigation.
