WAUSEON - Two Virginia residents were killed yesterday and a third person riding with them was injured when their van slammed into a tractor-trailer rig on the Ohio Turnpike, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Bricio Gutierrez Factor, 31, and Christina Ringel Rosales, 38, both of Falls Church, Va., were pronounced dead at the scene.
Alma Rosa Chino Casarrubias, 32, of Falls Church was in critical condition in Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.
The driver of the van, Alejandro Reyes Olayo, 24, also of Falls Church, was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and having no driver's license. He was being held in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio in Stryker, Ohio.
Troopers said Mr. Olayo was eastbound on the turnpike just west of the Wauseon exit, returning to Virginia from Chicago about 10:30 a.m. when his vehicle hit a tractor-trailer rig on the side of the turnpike.
A trailing sport utility vehicle and a car swerved to avoid the van and collided on the turnpike median. No other drivers were injured.
The tractor-trailer rig had run out of gasoline just before the collision.
