3-vehicle crash leaves 2 hurt, shuts U.S. 224

GREENWICH, Ohio - Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash that closed U.S. 224 in Huron County for two hours yesterday, the Ohio Highway Patrol, said.

Karen A. Caudill, 61, of Willard, Ohio, driver of one of the vehicles, was flown to the Medical College of Ohio Hospitals, Toledo. Her condition was not available last night.

Roger L. Payne, 62, of Shelby, Ohio, another of the drivers, was taken to Willard Mercy Hospital, then flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he was in fair condition.

Ms. Caudill was westbound at about 3 p.m. when she went left of center and hit the trailer wheels of a semi driven by William D. Saunders, 61, of Mansfield, Ohio. Mr. Saunders was not hurt, troopers said.

Ms. Caudill's car then struck Mr. Payne's eastbound minivan almost head-on. Another eastbound car, driven by David W. Enderby, 39, of Shiloh, Ohio, went off the road to avoid the crash. He was not hurt.
